LEJOG - Day 21: Bettyhill to JOHN O'GROATS!!!

Mission accomplished!!!

Today's highlight (and probably the highlight of the entire ride)... We stopped to take a picture of the North Sea and this gentleman called out of his window to ask if we'd like him to take a picture of us together...



But first, he gave us a grand tour of his house and told us all about the pictures hanging on the walls. He also recited a poem about the Lion's Head Point on the coast behind us. And then he sang us a quick song. Finally, he had us put on some fancy headwear and took our picture!


Quite the experience! We giggled for miles!

We rolled into John O'Groats this afternoon all together and Rob and Graham (tour guides) had champagne pouring freely.








All along this trip we've had a late large dinner, go to bed and get up and eat a big breakfast. Going to bed with a full stomach causes some weird dreams. One night it was that the entire CISD business unit retired!

Feels quite odd this evening knowing that tomorrow morning we don't have to pack in the calories at breakfast to be ready to ride. Just a small breakfast and then a bus ride to Inverness.

Rhi and Ty... Finally saw a couple corgis over here today...



We plan to keep updating our blog as we now travel to Edinburgh, York, and Reading.

On our last evening together Saturday, one of our Canuck friends shared this great poem... Yesterday we all got on a bus and rode from John O'Groats to Inverness where we went our separate ways. A couple people were going to visit the Orkneys... Others off to visit Ireland... Others back to their homes directly. We got dropped off at the airport where our rental car was waiting. And off we went, heading south to Edinburgh. The car was supposed to have built in GPS but unfortunately did not. But we made do with Google Maps on my smart phone, taped to the dashboard... Our first stop in the city was to a laundrette where we finally got our clothes really clean and not just rinsed out in a bathroom sink. Then checked in to our guest house and off for a walk to the Royal Mile (the main downtown street here). It was extremely crowded and noisy. LEJOG - Edinburgh to York

Walked a lot in Edinburgh yesterday and our feet HURT! Weird that we can ride bike more than a thousand miles with no issues and we walk four measly miles and we're knackered. Went to the National Museum of Scotland and found the perfect bicycle for our next long ride... Dolly, the first cloned sheep, now stuffed, is on display there. Remember her? Drove down here to York today and are staying at The Bar Convent Guest House. It's a real convent still and pretty neat. Considered eating dinner at this establishment but changed our minds... Tomorrow is another day of toodling... Railway Museum, Castle Museum, Quilt Museum... Etc. Etc.

LEJOG - Day 11: Dent to Armathwaite

Miles so far: 566 Officially more than half way there now... Most likely all down hill now to the North Sea! Today was our first day of real rain. By real rain, I mean rain, thunder, lightening, with a little bit of hail to make it even more interesting. That all lasted for the first 20 miles of the ride, at which point we stopped at a cafe for coffee and scones and dripped all over their chairs. The one casualty today was Jeff's bike computer... It drowned. We'll be going through a town tomorrow where there's a bike shop so hoping to find a new one there. Cows being herded up the road at us today... Interesting pub decor... Tomorrow, we will end the day in Scotland. Haggis for dinner maybe.
